St. John's School of Law Chapter of Amnesty International  is proud to present a film screening of the documentary

"CRUDE"

"CRUDE" is a recently released and critically acclaimed documentary about a landmark case concerning the alleged destruction of Amazonian rain forest in Ecuador by U.S. oil company Chevron. The plaintiffs are 30,000 indigenous and colonial rain forest dwellers who attribute medical ailments and deaths in their community to oil contamination of their land caused by Texaco (now Chevron) over a period of three decades. Experts have estimated that Chevron's activities account for $27.3 billion worth of damages to the land in which they operated. The film provides an excellent examination of the workings of the legal process in a cross-border litigation with so much at stake for the international community at large.

Q&A session to follow with producer Mike Bonfiglio,
Steven Donziger, Lead Attorney for the plaintiffs.

Reception to follow in the Mattone Family Atrium – 4th Floor
