Dr. Charles Wankel, Associate Professor of Management in the
Tobin College of Business, has been honored by the American Library
Association (ALA). His Encyclopedia of Business in
Today's World (SAGE) has been selected from all the books
published in the United States as one of three winners of the
Outstanding Business Reference Sources Award for 2009. The
award ceremony was held in Boston on January 17th at the American
Library Association's annual meeting, administered by its Business
Reference and Services Section. The award is reported in the ALA's

Among business professors, Dr. Wankel is one of the world’s most
prolific book editors and authors with more than 30 books to his
credit. Already in 2010, he has had two books published:
Emerging Ethical Issues of Life in Virtual Worlds and
Being and Becoming a Management Education Scholar.
His 2009 volumes (in addition to the encyclopedia) include
Higher Education in Virtual Worlds: Teaching and Learning in
Second Life and Management Education for Global
Sustainability. He has served on the editorial boards of his
discipline’s top journals including the Academy of Management
Journal and Academy of Management Learning &
Education. His most recent article is “Management
Education through Social Media,” Organization Management
Journal (December 2009). The American Library Association
