Introduction to Economics and Finance

Department Overview
The Economics and Finance Department offers courses that introduce students to cutting-edge economic and finance theories and their application to domestic and global issues. At the graduate level, the Department offers a Master of Business Administration in finance on the Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island, and Rome campuses.  The MBA degrees may be pursued as terminal degrees for students seeking careers in business, banking, securities, insurance, government, and other professions, or they may serve as a prelude to further graduate study in economics, finance, business, law, education, and other disciplines. One hallmark of the graduate finance programs is the The Student Managed Investment Fund. The Fund was established as part of the graduate curriculum in Fall 2002. Under the supervision of faculty and advisory alumni, students take advantage of the Financial Information Lab to research and invest in securities of their choosing for the Fund’s portfolio of $1 million. This course provides students with practical experience in asset and portfolio management for immediate contribution to trading or portfolio management activities upon completion of the MBA program.  Alternatively, students can select a combination of courses to match their preferences in pursuing opportunities in corporate finance, financial engineering, financial services, or international financial management.
