Chief of Detectives – Chief Dominick Varrone holds a Master of
Professional Studies degree in Criminal Justice Leadership from St.
John's University and is a graduate of the FBI National
Academy. He joined the Suffolk County Police Department in
1972. He has been the Chief of Support Services, Assistant
Chief of Patrol and the Commanding Officer of the Second Precinct,
Precinct Detective Bureau, District Attorney Section, Community
Response Unit, Kidnap Investigation Team, Hostage Negotiations
Team, and First Squad Detectives.

The Detective Division is headed by the
Chief of Detectives, who is responsible for the investigative
activities associated with serious offenses. Among the offenses for
which members of the Detective Division conduct investigations are
attempted suicide, gambling, motor vehicle theft, homicide, arson,
burglary, hate related incidents, and sex offenses.
