About the Program

Consistent with the mission of the Pharmacy & Administrative Sciences department, the Graduate division, the College, and the University, the Master’s degree in Pharmacy Administration (MS Pharmacy Administration) prepares pharmacy researchers and administrators with the theory and practice of the profession with graduates who will be committed to the welfare of the general public, pharmaceutical industry and to ongoing personal and professional self-improvement.  The Program prepares higher-level scientists for roles in basic research and applied aspects of pharmaceutical marketing, pharmaco-economics, regulatory, and patient behavior.

The program will produce graduates who:

Demonstrate competent evaluation of scientific literature

  • Analyze and critique scientific papers related to Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Demonstrate skill in literature searches with on-line databases
  • Evaluate the experimental design and methodology of scientific papers

Demonstrate fundamental competencies in basic areas of pharmacy administration: regulatory, management, marketing, personnel and finance.

  • Demonstrate understanding of the laws, regulations and procedures of federal and state guidelines that affect drugs and medical devices during their development, production and distribution stages.
  • Learn essentials of planning, organizing, and controlling management resources.
  • Demonstrate understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of the activities involved in retailing of pharmaceutical goods and services.
  • Demonstrate understanding of global pharmaceutical market and the economic, legal, cultural, political and competitive environment in which the global pharmaceutical market operates.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use tools of decision making, technology evaluation and health status assessments in the areas listed above. 
  • Define and explain “safety” and “efficacy” from the pharmacy administration point of view.
  • Design socio-economics study to assess the pharmaco-economic outcomes of the behavior of individuals and markets
  • Use computer databases to obtain and analyze information

Demonstrate skills in the practice of regulatory affairs, quality assurance or marketing

  • Demonstrate fundamental competency in applied areas of pharmacy administration: regulatory affairs, quality assurance, pharmaceutical marketing, pharmaco-socioeconomics.
  • Perform survey research using modern techniques and software (Plan A students)

Apply knowledge and skills to public benefit via pharmacy administration.

  • Explain the missions of federal agencies involved in advancement of public safety related to health as expressed in regulations, compliance, marketing processes (FDA, FTC, DEA, ICH, etc.)
  • Evaluate the political, socioeconomic, and emotional costs of dealing with pharmacy administration issues, including issues of social justice as expressed by the socio-economics of pharmaceutical care.
  • Communicate effectively through oral presentations, written communication, and poster displays.
