St. John's University, New Yorkers Mourn the Passing of Former Mayor Ed Koch

St. John’s University joins the New York community in mourning the passing of one of our city’s great leaders, Mayor Edward Koch.  St. John’s is proud to call New York City home and we are grateful for all of his tireless work and dedicated leadership.  Mayor Koch’s legacy will always be cast as a true fighter for his beloved city in saving New York from financial ruin and bankruptcy during his tenure in office.
 
We fondly remember celebrating our 1985 Men’s Basketball Final Four appearance and our NIT Championship in 1989 with Mayor Koch at City Hall, as he united New Yorkers in support of St. John’s.
