This seminar will
address such issues as prevalence and typologies of child/sexual
abuse, maltreatment, and neglect, physical and behavioral
indicators, and emotional and societal ramifications. The mandated
professional’s role in recognizing and reporting suspected child
abuse and neglect will be addressed. Caretaker and victim risk
factors will be explored. Seminar participants will enhance their
knowledge of parameters for interviewing suspected victims and
reporting potential child abuse cases to the State Central Register
(SCR).
Video and case vignettes will be presented
through which identification and reporting skills can be further
amplified. The potential for a child abuse report to eventuate in
an array of preventive and supportive services which can positively
impact on families will be discussed. Prevention strategies will be
reviewed and the mandated reporter’s role in community education
and involvement with regard to child abuse will be
addressed.
Completion of the workshop earns a
certificate of completion required for mandated professional
reporters of child abuse and maltreatment.

About the
Presenter:
Dr. David
Drassner is a New York State Licensed Psychologist in private
practice in Rockland County, NY. His practice encompasses such
areas as crisis intervention, resiliency-focused therapy,
adolescent/school concerns, individual/family counseling,
school/agency consultation, employee assistance consultation,
substance abuse, and professional development seminars. Dr.
Drassner is the President/Clinical Director of the Rockland
Resiliency Institute - a consultation organization providing
professional development and consultation to clinicians,
professional associations, schools, businesses, and community
groups on maximizing human potential and coping with varied life
challenges and transitions. He has also served as an
Adjunct Assistant Professor and Doctoral Practicum Supervisor in
the Department of Counseling and Clinical Psychology at Teachers
College, Columbia University. Dr. Drassner earned a Ph.D.
in Counseling Psychology from New York University, and an M.Ed. in
Counseling Psychology from Columbia University’s Teachers
College.
