Brief Program
Description
Specifically designed for professionals interested in becoming
familiar with the work of the court and the unique role played by
professionals that are called to testify. We will use an actual
child custody case to address some of these issues. In this
context, the program will address issues related to crucial
elements of a proper evaluation for custody, challenges on issues
related to gathering information from cooperative and uncooperative
sources, issues of pre-trail deposition, and issues
related to how best to prepare to be recognized as expert witness
by the court and become part of a court appointed panel. Finally,
we will cover issues related to rendering effective expert
testimony and ethical issues likely to emerge. Delineation of the
common errors to avoid and what sort of training should a forensic
professional have will also be addressed and demonstrated through a
simulation experience (moot court) in front of a judge. Forensic
psychologist(s), attorneys for the different parties will be
involved in the demonstration. The follow-up (postmortem)
panel discussion composed by these individuals will interact with
the audience.
