When children-adolescents are demonstrating dysfunctional
behaviors the question is, “Who has the problem”? Is it the
child/adolescent, parents, school system and or society at
large? Children/adolescents who act in an inappropriate
manner are crying for help. Many times the answers to a child
and adolescent problems lie within the family system. The
ability to visualize the child/adolescent problem as part of a
larger system enables child/adolescent, parents, therapist, school
psychologist and counselor to make necessary changes within the
systems, enabling the child/adolescent to change his/her
functioning and flourish. The goal is to have the
child/adolescent approximates more appropriate functioning which
builds self esteem, decreases anxiety and depression, and finally,
provides the child/adolescent with opportunities to success in both
the academic and social arena whether it be in the home or school
environment. This is the essential component of the ‘Integrative
Healing Family Therapy” model applied to the work of troubled
child/adolescent.
Dr. Pitta will present “Integrative Healing Family Therapy” and
its application to in the work of children and adolescents.
Integrative Healing Family Therapy is a therapeutic strategy that
enables one to change his/her perception of his/her functioning
within a system while at the same time working on his/her
individual problems. Dr. Pitta will explore and identify the
various theories informing the Integrative Healing Family Therapy
model with the specific objective to offer attendees a treatment
model that can be utilized with a child/adolescent and family
whether in a therapy office or school setting, regardless of one’s
treatment orientation. Attendees will be taught how to
visualize a child/adolescent centered problem as well as setting
goals of treatment. They will be shown how to evaluate a
family system to enable them to make necessary recommendations for
change through video presentation.
