Michael Whalen has worked in both the scholarly and pastoral
dimensions of sacramental and liturgical theology for the past
decade. Former director of the Office of Worship for the Diocese of
Wilmington, Delaware, he has published articles and book reviews in
Worship, Hosanna, The Living Light, Pace (Professional
Approaches for Christian Educators), The Priest, and New
Theology Review. He is the author of Seasons and Feasts of
the Church Year: An Introduction (Paulist Press, 1993). His
current areas of research include the postmodern reconstruction of
sacramental theology and spirituality, the relationship between
liberation and sacramental praxis, the possibilities for future
interreligious worship, the implications of the "Third Quest" for
the historical for sacramental praxis, and the nature and function
of religious symbolism in contemporary film.
