National Student
Speech-Language-Hearing Association Chapters
The Speech and Hearing Club at St. John's University is the
university chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing
Association and membership is open to all students. Chapters are
active on both the Queens and Staten Island campuses. The purpose
of the club is to disseminate to its members academic and
professional information that will enhance their knowledge of the
field of speech-language pathology and audiology. The activities of
the club include guest speakers, fund-raising events, and annual
parties for the clients enrolled in the Speech and Hearing Clinic
at the University.
Sigma Alpha Eta Honor
Society
Sigma Alpha Eta is the Speech-Language-Hearing Honor Society
that recognizes the outstanding achievement of students in the
field of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. The membership is
open to students on both Queens and Staten Island campuses who have
completed the required courses in speech-language pathology and
audiology with a 3.4 cumulative index in the major and an overall
cumulative index of 3.0.
Lambda Pi Eta Honor
Society
Students who have completed twelve credits in speech and have an
outstanding academic record may be eligible for induction into
Epsilon Delta, the St. John's chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, a national
honor society sponsored by the National Communication Association.
The purposes of Epsilon Delta include recognizing outstanding
academic achievement, stimulating interest in the field of
communication, promoting professional development among Rhetoric
and Public Address majors, and encouraging strong relationships
between students and faculty. Epsilon Delta induction events are
held at least once a year. Eligibility information is available in
the departmental office.
