Before joining the St. John’s faculty in 1980, Dr. Bell-Berti
was on the faculty of Montclair State College, leaving that
position to undertake a Individual Research Fellowship Grant (from
the National Institute of Neurological and Communicative Disorders
and Stroke) at the Haskins Laboratories in New Haven,
Connecticut. She is a member and a Fellow of the Acoustical
Society of America and of the American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association, and has served as a member of the Executive Council of
the Acoustical Society of America (2007-2010). In 1995, Dr.
Bell-Berti was co-editor, with Lawrence Raphael, of a Festschrift
in honor of Katherine Harris (Bell-Berti, F., & Raphael, L. J.
(Eds.). (1995). Producing speech: Contemporary Issues for
Katherine Safford Harris, Modern Acoustics and Signal Processing
Series. Woodbury, NY: American Institute of Physics).
Dr. Bell-Berti’s research is in the area ofexperimental
phonetics, especially speech motor control and the speech
perception and production of bilingual speakers.
