Requirement for Admission

Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher and 3.5 in 12 credits of selected courses.

How the Program Works

Accepted students take four master's courses and undergraduates, one per semester, beginning in their junior year. These four courses count toward the B.A. or B.S. degree and toward the Master's degree. Students get double credit for the four courses. These 12 credits are covered by undergraduate tuition rates, which means a savings for students. Student then have only 21 credits left to complete the Master's degree in the fifth year.

When to Apply

The best time is the second semester of the sophomore year so that the first graduate course is taken in the first semester of the junior year. It is also possible to begin the program in the second semester of the junior year.

How to Apply

The Combined Degree application form is available in the Graduate Division Office, St. John Hall, Room 135. Students fill out the top portion of the form, generate a transcript from the Web and bring both to the Registrar's office. The completed application and certified transcript are returned to Dr. Patrick McGuire in the Graduate Division Office. The application is approved by the Chair of the Sociology/Anthropology Department, the Undergraduate College Office and the Graduate Division. Students are informed in writing of the admission decision. The process normally takes three to four weeks.

Undergraduate Advisement is very important. Interested students should plan ahead.
