The Department of Sociology and Anthropology aims to educate
students about social and cultural forces influencing human
behavior. The
program develops skills in sociological and anthropological
research and the analysis of small groups, organizations, and
communities, leading to careers as professors, researchers,
consultants, or as sociologically and anthropologically-informed
practitioners regardless of the setting. Students planning to
pursue a Ph.D. in Sociology, Anthropology or related disciplines
will receive preparation enabling them to pursue academic
teaching/research careers.
Areas of research include criminal justice, deviance,
criminology, sociology of law, clinical sociology, medical
sociology, sociology of mental health and disability, health
professions and community placement of developmentally
disabled.
