Praxis Information

The School Psychology Programs require passing of the PRAXIS examination as part of the degree requirement.

The Educational Testing Service (ETS) recently announced that beginning September 1, 2008, a new version of the PRAXIS-II School Psychologist test will be administered. The test has been reviewed and updated by a National Advisory Committee.  Its content has not been changed extensively; it was updated with some new items that will be gradually incorporated into the test in future test administrations. More information about the test is found at http://www.ets.org/Media/Tests/PRAXIS/pdf/0401.pdf.

ETS also announced that the score scale for the PRAXIS-II School Psychologist test was revised to be consistent with other PRAXIS-II tests. Previously, scores on PRAXIS-II tests were on a scale ranging from 250-990 and 660 was the score required for NCSP applicants. Now, PRAXIS-II scores are on a scale ranging from 100-200 and ETS has determined that the equivalent score for the NCSP is 165. Please note that the rescaling of the tests simply results in a different score range but does not change the major statistical properties of the test. ETS statisticians calculated each state or agency passing score on the new scale equivalent to the passing score that the state or agency had established on the previous scale.  This statistical process did not change the state's passing standard for each of the tests but simply determined the equivalent passing score on the new scale. See www.ets.org/praxis/nasp.
