The Division of Library and Information Science at St. John's
University was founded in 1937 and offers the Master of Library
Science (MLS) degree.
The program, accredited by the American Library Association
through Spring 2011, is taught by faculty recognized for innovative
teaching, publication productivity, and dedication to the St.
John's tradition of academic excellence.
Since 2005, the Division of Library and Information Science has
offered courses at St. Thomas
Aquinas College (STAC) in Rockland County. This partnership
with STAC enables students to pursue an MLS degree with St. John's
University by taking courses both at STAC and online.
Students studying in the library science program can take
courses to prepare them to work in public, school, and other
library settings as a children’s librarian, school media
specialist, reference librarian, or an academic or special
librarian. By participating in the STAC cohort, students are able
to earn their degrees within two and a half academic years, with
the option to accelerate their schedule.
