Library and Information Sciences

Welcome to the Division of Library and Information Science at St. John's University. This is a truly exciting time to enter the information profession! For centuries librarians have linked people with information, preserved the knowledge base of civilization, and ensured access to that knowledge and information across all strata of society.

The Division has a long and dynamic history of educating librarians and information specialists for a broad array of careers in the information professions. We are pleased to announce our reaccreditation by the American Library Association through Spring 2011. Enlivened by St. John's distinctive vision of leadership and service, our graduates excel in the competencies and values required of information professionals in a rapidly evolving global community.

A St. John's education offers a strong theoretical foundation coupled with the practical experience necessary for success in today's work world. Through a mixture of service learning courses, special projects, field trips and internships you will be exposed to the rich and extensive library resources that only New York can offer. All of this happens in a supportive environment with world-renowned faculty and small class sizes. Whether you are interested in story-telling, metadata, electronic services, or working with a diverse public community, St. John's Division of Library and Information Science will provide the educational foundation for your chosen career path.
