The qualifying examination is taken upon the completion of three
semesters of full-time study or 33 academic credits to determine
the student’s eligibility to continue in the program. Students
electing to leave the program after satisfactory completion of this
examination or who are advised to do so will be awarded the
master’s degree.
The comprehensive examination is not to be taken before the
student’s last semester of course work and within one year of the
completion of all course, language and residence requirements. This
examination will cover the entire area of the candidate’s field of
study and consist of four hours of written examination for each of
the two sections of the principal academic area and four hours for
the skills and methodology section, for a total of 12 hours
