Timothy A. Milford

Prof. Milford is an historian of colonial and early national North America.  He took his Ph.D. from Harvard University.  His research has concentrated on political change and cultural aspiration in the late eighteenth century.  For an example of his work, please see The Gardiners of Massachusetts:  Provincial Ambition and the British-American Career (University Press of New England, 2005).  Prof. Milford is currently studying how Latin American unrest and the geopolitics of the Napoleonic era affected Anglo-American relations and conceptions of empire.  He offers courses in colonial America, the American Revolution, Amerindian-European contacts, and legal history.
