Students in the Thesis Option must take at least 12 semester
hours in the field of concentration. Of the remaining 18
hours, students must take these minimum semester hours for the
following fields of concentration:
American Government or Public
Administration
3 hours in International Relations and Comparative Government
3 hours in Political Theory
International Relations and Comparative
Government
3 hours in American Government
3 hours in Political Theory
Political Theory
3 hours in International Relations and Comparative
Government
3 hours in either American Government or Public Administration
In addition, students must present evidence of their knowledge
of a foreign language (normally either French or German by passing
the ETS examination or a reading course in the appropriate
language-for which no credit is given. Upon approval of the
department and the Dean, a language other than French or German may
be substituted if such substitution is deemed desirable because of
the nature of the student's special field. Under the guidance of
the mentor, the student must prepare a satisfactory thesis on a
subject in his/her field of concentration.
