In conjunction with the School of Law the department offers a
combined M.A./J.D. program. At the end of three years of graduate
study, including at least one summer, students may graduate with
both the Master of Arts and the Juris Doctor degree. To be
eligible, students must apply for the combined degree program after
having been accepted to both the Graduate and Law Schools.
Students must apply separately to the School of Law and the
Graduate Division of Arts and Sciences, normally during the senior
year, and must meet all regular requirements for admission to both
the School of Law and the Graduate Division of Arts and Sciences as
set forth in the respective school bulletins.
Students currently enrolled in the School of Law also may apply
prior to completion of their second year of study. These students,
however, may have to spend at least an additional semester of
full-time M.A. study. Students currently enrolled in the Graduate
Division of Arts and Sciences may also apply for this
combined degree program. The Deans of both schools must approve
the course of study for all students accepted to the M.A./J.D.
program.
