William Nieter received his Masters Degree in Science Education
Supervision from Columbia University in New York in 1981. He is the
Director of the Environmental Studies Program and the Assistant
Dean of St. John’s College. He has served as Director of the
Environmental Studies Program since 1985. He regularly
teaches courses in Natural Resources and World Development, World
Regional and North American Regional Geography, Environmental
Geology, Coastal Environment and Development Issues and an Honors
course in Environmental and Earth Sciences. He has served on a
number of advisory committees to city and state agencies dealing
with local water quality issues around the New York metro area
including the NY/NJ Harbor Estuary Program. He has hosted
several conferences both at St. Johns and at outside venues dealing
with local and regional environmental issues. Outside the
University he serves on several NYC advisory committees and has an
active leadership role with several community based environmental
groups.
