Scholarships

Regarding scholarships: There are several scholarships, detailed below, that are available and we encourage all students to apply. In order to apply for scholarships you must first have applied and have been admitted to the program. View the application procedure here.

Unicaritas Scholarship Program
Unicaritas, based upon excellence, need and personal statement, is providing full scholarships for 15 students throughout the world annually. The scholarship includes room and board in Rome for two summer sessions, tuition, a laptop computer and a digital camera.  The Unicaritas scholarship is only awarded to students after acceptance into the program.

Pope Paul VI Scholarship Program
Scholarships are awarded to diplomatic personnel from Permanent Missions to the United Nations. Eligible candidates must be listed in the UN Blue Book entitled “Permanent Missions to the United Nations” and must matriculate for an undergraduate or graduate degree in any college or school at the University (except the School of Law). The awards are partial scholarships covering 50 percent of tuition.

The Pope Paul VI Scholarship program began in 1965. Since then the University has awarded nearly 4 million dollars in scholarships. Many distinguished international alumni from St. John’s University are former Pope Paul VI Scholars.

Notes on the award

  1. Scholarships cover 50 percent of tuition only. The student must pay all other fees.
  2. The award covers one degree only.
  3. Scholarships are intended for foreign diplomats assigned to UN missions, not American personnel employed by the permanent missions.
  4. The application process for admissions to the University is separate from the application for the Pope Paul VI Scholarship and all students must meet entrance requirements for particular programs and degrees.
  5. Once accepted, students must submit a letter of consideration to the Pope Paul Scholarship Committee.
  6. Students awarded the scholarship may commence studies at the beginning of any term: fall, spring or summer.
  7. Scholarship recipients must verify their United Nations employment status each year to remain eligible for the scholarship.
  8. Award recipients who are no longer employed by their missions must contact the Pope Paul VI Scholarship Committee immediately. Such scholars will be given one calendar year to conclude their studies beyond which they will lose their scholarship eligibility.
