Master of Science in Biology

Students in these programs master the foundational principles of biochemistry and cell/molecular biology; understand the mechanisms by which the scientific process advances the state of knowledge in biology; and effectively communicate ideas and experimental results.

The program will prepare graduates to:

Master the foundational principles of biochemistry and cell/molecular biology.

• Demonstrate knowledge of basic principles of biochemistry and cell/molecular biology.
• Demonstrate the ability to describe the integrated function of biological systems.

Demonstrate the ability to extend beyond foundational knowledge to an understanding of the mechanisms by which the scientific process advances the state of knowledge in biology.

• Read and interpret current biological literature
• Formulate scientific hypotheses
• Design hypothesis-driven experiments
• Analyze and interpret data
• Apply classroom knowledge in experimental contexts
• Execute proposed experiments

Effectively communicate hypothetical scientific ideas and experimental results:

• Write cogently about science
• Apply methods of logical argument
• Speak cogently about science
