It’s never too late to set and accomplish goals in life. As a
mother, actress, community-theatre board member, former corporate
executive and first-year law student in St. John’s University’s
School of Law, Mary Kalich is a great example of why you should
never stop pursuing your dreams.
After graduating from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a
degree in electrical engineering and computer science, Mary
established a career at Accenture as a consultant to some of the
world’s top technological and financial companies. For nine years,
Mary managed teams to provide technology solutions for clients such
as JP Morgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, NASDAQ and GE Capital.
In her spare time, Mary continues to be heavily involved in the
North Fork Community Theatre where she produced and acted in shows
and was elected chairman of a $5 million dollar capital campaign to
find and fund a permanent location for the theatre.
“My management and not-for-profit experiences presented many
challenges and opportunities to effect positive change. I believe
that my law education will enable me to be a better advocate and
leader of the organizations that I have previously been involved in
and enable me to see additional causes or initiatives that I should
support.”
Mary chose St. John’s School of Law out of many schools in the
metropolitan area because of the recommendations she received from
both alumni and non-alumni lawyers. “I was told that St. John’s has
a very supportive alumni network that provides mentoring as well as
career placement, which was a huge factor in my decision when I
chose a law school.”
In just the few months she has been a law student, Mary has already
found opportunities to get involved and make her mark in the Law
School community. Elected as a first-year representative of the Student Bar
Association, Mary says she’s enjoying every minute of her
experience back in the classroom.
“I am enjoying the intellectual stimulation of being in a
collegiate setting and am already impressed by the professors and
St. John’s faculty in general. The high goals they set combined
with the supportive, helpful atmosphere sets a great balance that I
believe will help me succeed in law school and as a lawyer in the
future.”
