Maura A. McLoughlin
Managing Attorney, Cahill Gordon & Reindel, LLP
J.D., ‘91
Early in her academic career, Maura McLoughlin didn’t know where
she wanted to go or what type of law she wanted to practice. But
she did know that a J.D. from the School of Law would open
virtually any professional door upon which she would ultimately
decide.
“My father is a 1956 graduate of the School of Law, so I had an
early connection with St. John’s and knew, through him, that the
education was second to none. That has only been confirmed further
with my position at Cahill Gordon & Reindel, a highly respected
Wall Street law firm with a large corporate and litigation
practice.”
The preparation she received at the School of Law was a
comprehensive blend of theory and practice. She was particularly
impressed with the collection of faculty, their genuine interest in
each student’s experience, and the opportunities she was afforded
to apply her skills outside the classroom.
“The faculty at St. John’s is made up of a dedicated, talented,
and impressive group of individuals who provide students with a
direct, comprehensive curriculum fueled by a practical teaching
approach. It thoroughly prepared me for the real-life world of the
legal profession.
“Also, there was a unique fellowship and camaraderie among my
fellow classmates. There was a true sense of enthusiasm for the law
and for the experience. Personally, I was very involved in the moot
court program, which enriched my law school life
significantly.”
And it was through a fellow alum that she landed at Cahill
Gordon & Reindel—an alum who at the time was a partner in the
high-powered firm, but has since moved on to sit as a District
Court Judge on the federal bench.
“I knew that as an alumnus of St. John’s, nothing would be
foreclosed to me. I began my tenure at Cahill through the auspices
and wonderful fellowship of a fellow St. John’s alum. As managing
attorney, my focus is our litigation practice and the monitoring of
the litigations in which we are involved. The serving and filing of
all litigation documents is done through my office and my office
serves as a resource for all procedural issues.”
