Queens, N.Y. -
St. John’s University School of Law's Latin
American Law Students Association and the Latino Lawyers
Association of Queens County were selected by the New York State
Conference of Bar Leaders as the recipients of the 2005 Award of
Merit for Local Bar Associations for the “Street Law in Español”
program. The program presents informative panel discussions on a
variety of legal topics for Spanish-speaking communities in Queens
County. It also provides mentoring and networking
opportunities for members of the Latino Lawyers Association of
Queens County and the Latin American Law Student Association of St.
John’s.
The annual award honors a local bar association for a project or
on-going program that makes a significant contribution to the
profession and the community.
The “Street Law in Español” program was created by St. John’s
School of Law graduate Jose L. Perez of the Consumer Affairs
Division of the State Attorney General’s Office more than twenty
years ago.
