St. John’s University School of Law Professor Receives People of Color Award at Washington, D.C. Gala

Queens, NY - St. John's University School of Law Professor Leonard M. Baynes recently received "The Extraordinary Service Award" at the Second Annual National People of Color Conference held at George Washington University Law School.

The award is given to an individual who has provided "extraordinary service" to the minority legal academic community through legal scholarship, teaching, and commitment to professional development.

"I was honored and excited to be recognized by my peers in such a meaningful way," said Professor Baynes. "It is a deeply emotional experience to be recognized by one's colleagues who have singled me out for my contributions to the profession and appreciate the value my work. I plan to continue serving the legal community and my students in this very important way."

In presenting the award, Professors Jack Chin of Arizona Law School, Valorie Vojdik of West Virginia Law School and Lenese Herbert of Albany Law School cited the more than 20 law review articles written by Professor Baynes, as well as his service to the minority academic community in planning legal conferences, service on professional committees, and excellence in teaching.
 
Professor Baynes is a tenured professor at St. John's University School of Law, where he teaches Business Organizations, Communications Law, and Race/Racism and The Law. Professor Baynes resides in Forest Hills, New York.
