Management Lawyers’ Colloquium - Alumni discuss their careers and cutting edge issues in labor and employment law.

The St. John’s University School of Law Labor Relations and Employment Law Society and the Office of Career Services sponsored the 12th Annual Management Lawyers’ Colloquium on September 23rd, 2008.  The Colloquium was moderated by Professor David Gregory, the faculty advisor to the St. John’s Labor Relations and Employment Law Society since 1982, and it featured six St. John’s Law School alumni currently working in management-side labor and employment law: Craig Roberts and Ana Shields of Jackson Lewis LLP; Michael Masri of Meltzer Lippe; Christopher Kurtz of Bond, Schoeneck, & King, PLLC; Heather Harrison of Farrell Fritz, PC; and Ann Carroll Goode of Seyfarth Shaw, LLP.  The lawyers traced their professional journey as labor and employment lawyers from their days as St. John’s students to their present positions.  Each gave invaluable advice on networking, interviewing, coursework, and labor and employment law advocacy.

Jackson Lewis LLP, a nation-wide law firm representing management in labor and employment law issues, sponsors a partial tuition merit scholarship in honor of Alan Becker, a Jackson Lewis partner of beloved memory who distinguished himself for his excellence as a labor and employment lawyer and for his selfless commitment to his colleagues.  The scholarship has been awarded to a St. John’s law student each year since 2006, and was presented to second year student Rebecca Leaf at the close of the event.

Many law students attended the event, as well as other labor and employment lawyers, who with the distinguished speakers spoke with the students for several hours after the scholarship presentation.
