St. John’s Students Offer Pro Bono Legal Assistance to Queens Consumers

March 12, 2008

Responding to the escalating consumer debt crisis, St. John’s University School of Law has begun a new program to offer free legal assistance to Queens consumers being sued by creditors in civil court.  The program, the “Civil Legal Advice and Resource Office” (CLARO), is being offered in conjunction with the Queens Bar Association’s Volunteer Lawyers Project.  St. John’s law students volunteer on a weekly basis and are available to give consumers legal advice and to serve as Law School Student Interpreters.  The program is coordinated by Professors Ann Goldweber and Gina Calabrese, who together run the law school's Elder Law Clinic.

More information about CLARO is available in the press release here.
