School of Law Announces LL.M. in U.S. Legal Studies for Foreign Law School Graduates

July 12, 2007

The Accreditation Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section on Legal Education and Admission to the Bar has acquiesced to St. John’s University School of Law’s application to establish an LL.M. Program in U.S. Legal Studies for Foreign Law School Graduates. The twenty-four credit program, designed for foreign-trained attorneys and jurists, will begin in the Fall of 2008. Students enrolled in the program will take two required courses in American Legal Research and Writing and Introduction to American Law and then be able to tailor a program around their needs and interests.

The LL.M. Program allows students to be eligible for applying to the New York Bar Examination, thus providing them with the option of practicing law in the United States or their home countries.

The LL.M. Program is open to graduates of any accredited foreign law school. Rolling admission will begin in the Fall of 2007. Applicants must provide their law school transcript in English; a non-refundable application fee of $100; two letters of recommendation and, if necessary, proof of English language proficiency demonstrated through a minimum TOEFL score of 600.

Further details on the program, as well as application materials, will be posted on the School of Law's Web site in the near future. For further information, contact Professor Philip Weinberg at weinberp@stjohns.edu or Luca Melchionna, Director of Transnational Programs, at melchiol@stjohns.edu.
