St. John’s School of Law Professor Janai S. Nelson Featured on CNN Newsroom, Saturday, Nov. 1

St. John’s University School of Law Professor Janai S. Nelson, Assistant Director of the Ronald H. Brown Center for Civil Rights and Economic Development, was featured as a guest speaker on CNN’s Newsroom, Saturday, November 1 at 10 a.m.  

As part of the 2008 Election coverage, CNN Newsroom anchor Betty Nguyen spoke with Professor Nelson live (via satellite from CNN headquarters in Atlanta, GA) about voting rights, a topic that has gained significant media coverage as the election draws near.

Professor Nelson joined St. John’s staff in 2006. In addition to conducting research on election law and voting rights issues, she teaches Election Law and Political Participation, Voting Rights Seminar, and Professional Responsibility.

Professor Nelson was previously the Director of Political Participation at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF), where she oversaw all voting related litigation and matters, litigated voting rights and redistricting cases, and worked on criminal justice issues on behalf of African Americans and other under-served communities.  Her voting rights experience at LDF encompasses constitutional cases and actions arising under the Voting Rights Act and other federal and state statutes.
