Queens, NY - In a rousing welcome to the Queens campus, St.
John’s University’s School of Law treated the
entering Class of 2005 to a day at Shea Stadium as the New York
Mets took on the Washington Nationals on Sunday, August 21,
2005.
Mary Daly, Dean of the School of Law, greeted the new law
students at the legendary ballpark. Before the game began, the
first-year law students enjoyed a picnic. Then they took their
seats in the outfield stands behind Mets center fielder Carlos
Beltran.
In his first major league at-bat, pinch-hitter Mike Jacobs
powered a three-run homer – only the fourth Mets player to do so.
Yet the Nationals ultimately beat the Mets, 7-4.
Though the home team lost, first-year law students enjoyed their
day at the game – and their first taste of the close-knit spirit
that distinguishes St. John’s as a learning community. We invite
you to share their excitement by viewing our Photo Gallery.
