The Animal Law Society (ALS) at St. John's School of Law works
in conjunction with the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund to raise
awareness of animal law issues and practice. As a fairly new
student organization, the ALS has made a big impact. Most
importantly, the Society successfully petitioned the administration
to offer Animal Law as part of the curriculum at St. John's School
of Law. This past fall, the Society screened "Sharkwater," a
documentary about shark finning in the waters off of Costa Rica and
the Galapagos Islands. The Society also teams up with the Armed
Forces Society to hold the Annual Vets and Pets 5K Run/Walk for
charity. The event is one of the most popular events in the law
school, where participants are invited to bring their pets to walk
and raise money for charities chosen by each society.
