Richard Batten is partner in the financial services
division of the Sydney firm Minter Ellison. Mr. Batten specializes
in financial services regulation (FSR) and anti-money laundering
(AML) law in Australia. He has particular expertise in the
regulation and distribution of wealth management services and
products and acts for many of the leading financial institutions in
Australia.
Mr. Batten has been actively involved in the financial services
industry in Australia for over 19 years, particularly the peak
body—the Financial Services Council (FSC). Over that time, he has
taken a leading role in discussions with key Australian regulators,
including the Commonwealth Treasury, the Australian Securities and
Investments Commission (ASIC), the Australian Prudential Regulation
Authority (APRA) and the Australian Transaction Reports and
Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC). Most recently, Richard has been actively
involved in industry responses and submissions in relation to the
Future of Financial Advice (FOFA) and shorter product disclosure
reforms.
