This symposium presents an in-depth discussion and a full
academic inquiry into the legal, secular and religious dimensions
of these issues through a series of expert panel discussions,
featured dialogues and addresses, including addresses by:
Former US. Congressman Bob Barr The 2008
Libertarian Party presidential candidate who authored the Defense
of Marriage Act (DOMA) and, in recent years, has advocated to
repeal DOMA and replace it with the Respect for Marriage Act
Professor Ian Ayres The William K. Townsend
Professor of Law at Yale Law School will discuss his book,
Straightforward: How to Mobilize Heterosexual Support for Gay
Rights
Rev. Robert John Araujo, S.J. The John
Courtney Murray, S.J. University Professor at Loyola University
Chicago School of Law will discuss Catholic teachings on same-sex
marriage
