American Bankruptcy Institute Law Review

Introduction

The Spring 2004 edition of the American Bankruptcy Institute Law Review is truly unique; it is dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of the Bankruptcy Code. This issue is composed entirely of articles and commentaries presented during the anniversary celebration that took place the weekend of October 10-11 on the campus of Georgetown University School of Law in Washington, D.C.

The purpose of this issue is to capture the essence of that weekend’s dialogue. In addition, this edition of the Law Review includes the transcripts from the debate and roundtable discussion that ended the weekend celebration.  The collection of works in this issue reflects on the benefits, shortcomings, failures, and effects of the Code over the past 25 years.

The 25th Anniversary Symposium contained scholarly presentations by top bankruptcy professionals from across the country. There were four main articles presented on Friday, October 10th. Each main article was followed up by two commentary responses. In total, there were twelve wonderfully insightful pieces presented throughout the weekend. The Anniversary celebration concluded on Saturday, October 11th, with a presentation of a debate and a roundtable discussion on the past, present, and future of the bankruptcy system in the United States.
