The Multilingual Legal Advocates seek to identify and pair up
multilingual law students at St. John’s School of Law with
volunteer opportunities requiring the communication of law to
foreign language speakers. The group not only helps law
students maintain valuable language skills and advocates a global
perspective on law, but serves the greater need of assisting
non-English speakers in need of support.
Additionally, the group encourages participation in law-related
language enrichment classes and workshops, promotes the exploration
of in-semester and summer study abroad programs, hosts speakers on
topics relating to multilingualism and the law, and partners with a
variety of other SJU Law organizations to host events. The
group’s ultimate aim is to prepare St. John’s alumni to serve a
more diverse clientele.
