Theresa A. Hughes

Director and Co-founder, Child Advocacy Clinic and Assistant Professor of Clinical Education. B.A., Manhattan College, M.A., Brooklyn College, J.D., City University of New York School of Law.

Professor Hughes joined the St. John’s faculty in April, 2005.  She came to St. John’s with a background in clinical education having taught at Hofstra Law School’s Child Advocacy Clinic for four years and in the Spring of 2004 at CUNY School of Law’s Juvenile Defense Clinic.

Prior to clinical teaching, Professor Hughes served as a senior staff attorney at the Juvenile Rights Division of The Legal Aid Society of the City of New York as well as an advocate at Covenant House Legal Services.  She has also represented adult and child-clients in New York State Family Court as a court appointed attorney.

Professor Hughes has lectured and published in the areas of juvenile justice, child welfare, parental rights, and professionalism.
