Students taking exams on laptops must use EXAM 4 software.
Be advised that, even if you had EXAM 4 installed in your laptop
for a prior semester, you must have it installed again. NOTE: Students must register online for
laptop exams each semester and must verify their
registration at the Registrar prior to the exam.
Changing Your Mind
If you change your mind about using your laptop for exams, please
notify the Registrar AT LEAST 48 HOURS BEFORE THE SCHEDULED
EXAM, and every attempt will be made to reschedule you in
a non-laptop room.
However, if you wait longer than that to change your mind, you
will be instructed to remain in the laptop room and write your exam
there.
Students who apply for and are accepted to use laptops will be
required to take their exams in a laptop room, even if they do not
attend the information sessions.
Open Book Exams
Be advised that if your exam is open book, you will not be able to
access materials on your hard drive and you should plan to print
out whatever you might need from your computer BEFORE THE EXAM.
Day-of Procedures
You should arrive 45 minutes before the exam is scheduled to begin,
so that you can be sure your laptop is in order.
On the exam day, in laptop rooms, before the exam materials are
distributed, the IT staff and the proctors will ascertain
that everyone’s computer is running.
You will be asked to be sure that you wireless adaptor is
functioning.
As for any exam, you will receive the exam questions, scantron
sheets (if there are multiple choice questions on the exam) and
exam booklets (should it become necessary to write the answers)
At the end of the exam (or when you finish), you will be asked
to exit the exam.
Be aware that once you select Exit and confirm the Exit, YOU
WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REENTER THE EXAM NOR CAN THE PROCTOR OVERRIDE
THE EXIT.
Your exam is automatically saved on your hard drive.
The proctor will come to your desk to collect your exam
questions, scantron sheet, disk, any scrap and the exam booklets
(used and un-used) as well as the “Laptop Problem Report” (if
applicable).
Once your exam has been collected, you are to proceed to the
front of the room where you will sign out.
The staff of the Registrar’s Office will print your exam and
deliver the hard copy to the faculty.
If the instructions on your exam indicate that you are to use a
certain number of pages to answer a question, note the
following:
A double spaced typed page equals to approximately 250 words.
To begin a new page for each answer: Click on options and then

Problems
Each student will receive a “Laptop Problem Report” with the exam
questions. If you experience any problems with your computer
on the day of the exam, you must notify the proctor and prepare to
write the exam. You will not be given extra time to fix
computer problems during the exam. At the end of the exam,
complete the “Laptop Problem Report” and submit it with your
question paper and answer booklet to the proctor. When your
exam has been collected, remain in the classroom. A technical
support person will be called to retrieve the encrypted exam and
file from the hard drive.
Post-exam
Should there be any problem with printing your exam, you will be
contacted and asked to bring your laptop to the Director of
Information Technology, Kasra Hafezi (Room 2M-06 and 2M-07).
He will retrieve the encrypted file from your hard drive.
