Hoffman Bioethics Student Writing Competition sponsored by the American College of Legal Medicine

  • Topic:  Any aspect of Bioethics, that is, any ethical issues arising specifically within the health care arena in the 21st century.  Examples of suitable topics would include the ethical implications of death and dying, reproductive rights, bioterrorism, patient-physician relationship, patient safety, public health, biological sciences, organ donation and allocation, biomedical and behavioral research, and medical genetics.

American Bar Association Section of Science and Technology Law Law Student Writing Competition

  •  Topic: The Internet has taken social networking to a whole new level, not only for adults but also for children and teens.  Some sites, such as MySpace, Facebook and YouTube, have a sweeping range or participants.  Others are narrowly focused.  With this seemingly limitless opportunity for networking and sharing personal information have come questions about privacy.  What are the privacy issues presented by these new technologies?  Are current legal concepts of privacy protection adequate to deal with this continually evolving new world?
  • Awards: The winner will receive airfare and two nights’ hotel accommodations to attend the ABA Annual Meeting, and a complimentary registration and luncheon ticket.  The winner will also receive public recognition at the Section luncheon and will be recognized in The SciTech Lawyer. Annual Entertainment Law Initiative Legal Writing Contest sponsored by the Grammy Foundation

  • Topic:  A 3,000 word essay (approximately 13 – 14 double-spaced pages,     inclusive of end notes) on a compelling legal issue facing the music    industry.
  • Awards: The grand prize winner receives a $5,000 scholarship and the four     runners-up each receive $1,500 scholarships.  All five winning articles    will be published in a major law journal.  The winners are also flown to    Los Angeles to attend several GRAMMY week events, including the    award telecast, and are honored at the Entertainment Law Initiative    Luncheon.
