C. Bainbridge Smith Scholarship
Fund
The Special Committee to Administer the C. Bainbridge Smith
Scholarship Fund is again seeking nominations of needy law students
with long-term ties to New York City. Special consideration is
given to students who face serious economic disadvantages including
lack of funds and physical or cultural handicaps. Students who wish
to be considered for nomination should submit a scholarship
application form to Senior Assistant Dean for Students Katherine
Sullivan (Room 4-68, ext. 6045).

Bronx County Bar Association
Scholarships
The Bronx County Bar Association has announced that it will award
the Alexander A. DelleCese Memorial Scholarship in the amount of
$2,000 and the Craig Lensch Memorial Scholarship in the amount of
$2,000 to deserving law students who are domiciled in Bronx County.
The scholarships will be presented at The Association’s Annual
Dinner on March 28, 2007 at the Marina del Rey.

Columbian Lawyers Association First
Judicial Department Scholarships
The Columbian Lawyers Association (First Judicial Department) will
be awarding four scholarships, each in the sum of $1,500, to
students of Italian heritage. A fifth award, funded by his
family, will be awarded in the memory of Ralph A. Cavallo,
Esq. A sixth award, funded by the Louis R. Aidala Family
Foundation, will also be made. To qualify, each student must
send a short essay indicating the source of his/her Italian
heritage, the reason for need of financial assistance and a brief
statement as to the student’s aspirations and goals. All

Bar Foundation Scholarship
The Hudson County Bar Foundation will award
scholarships to students who reside in Hudson County and who can
demonstrate financial need. Applications are available at the

Suffolk County Women’s Bar Association
Scholarship
Topic: What prominent legal or political figure do you believe
has made a significant contribution to the advancement of
women and why?
There is a maximum limit of 1,000 words. This scholarship is
available to any third year law student, male or
female.
Award: $500
The winning author will also receive an invitation to the SCWBA
installation dinner in June 2008 and be eligible to have their
submission published in the member newsletter.

Scholarships
Fourteen Scholarships will be awarded:

Criteria: Student graduating law school in 2008; commitment

outstanding academic performance; and leadership in school and

Cabaniss, Johnston Scholarship for Alabama
Residents
To commemorate its 100th anniversary in 1987, the firm Cabaniss,
Johnston, Gardner, Dumas & O’Neal of Birmingham and Mobile
created with the Alabama Law Foundation, Inc. a scholarship in
memory of its founding partners, Edward Harmon Cabaniss and Forney
Johnston. The scholarship is awarded annually to a law
student who is a resident of Alabama, is attending an accredited
law school in the United Stated and will be a second-year
student. The scholarship will cover tuition and books for the
second year of law school to a maximum of $5,000. A second
place scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded at the committee’s
discretion. While academic achievement is the key factor in
determining eligibility for the scholarship, consideration will be
given to other factors such as conscientiousness, dependability,
civic involvement, financial need and dedication to the highest
ethical standards.

Waterbury Bar Association
Scholarship
The Waterbury Bar Association offers three scholarships:
$1,500 Waterbury Bar Association Scholarship and $1,000 Bar
President’s Scholarship
Applicants must be residents of the Waterbury Judicial District
(Middlebury, Naugatuck, Prospect, Southbury, Watertown, Wolcott,
Woodbury or Waterbury) and be in or entering their final year of
study in the Fall of 2007.
$1,000 Edward Traurig Scholarship
Applicants must be residents of the Waterbury Judicial District but
can be entering their second or final year of study in the Fall
2007 as a full or part-time student.

Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education
Fund Scholarship Program for Law Students
The Puerto Rican Bar Association (PRBA) Scholarship Award ($2,000 –
may vary) is available to all Latino students in a JD degree

Association Scholarship sponsored by
The Community Foundation of Dutchess County and the Dutchess County
Bar Association
Created by the law firm of Gellert & Klein, P.C., this
scholarship is awarded annually to a resident of Dutchess County
who is matriculated in an accredited law school and who has
completed at least one year of law school. The scholarship
will be in the amount of $1,000. Applications must be

This scholarship is available to students practicing the Catholic
faith who reside or attend law school in Queens County and who are

Sidney B. Williams, Jr. Scholarship
sponsored by the American Intellectual Property Law Education
Foundation (AIPLEF)
This scholarship is available to minority students developing a
career in intellectual property law. The winner will be
awarded $10,000 per school year (two semesters, excluding summer
session and intersession) beginning with the fall semester.
This award is renewable, upon reapplication by the student, for up
to three academic years.

Scholarship Fund, Inc.
This Scholarship fund was established to provide supplemental
financial assistance to second and third year minority law

Ruth Rabstein Scholarship sponsored by the
Women Lawyers’ Caucus of Mercer County (WLCMC)
This $1,500 scholarship is available to female law students with
ties to Mercer County, New Jersey and will be awarded on the basis

The Nassau County Bar Association
Scholarship
The Nassau County Bar Association will award a $2,500 scholarship
to a student entering the final year of law school as of Fall 2007,
who is in good academic standing, and who has an interest in and
commitment to promoting diversity among the practicing Bar in
Nassau County. The student should be prepared to participate
in a Nassau County Bar Association committee or committees during
the term of the scholarship in furtherance of these goals and
should have a stated desire to practice law in Nassau County after

Elaine Osborne Jacobson Award for Women in
Health Care Law sponsored by The Pound Civil Justice
Institute
This unique national award is given annually to a woman law student
with a demonstrated interest in health care law. Candidates
must be nominated by a law school dean or professor.

Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New
Americans
The purpose of The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New
Americans is to provide opportunities for continuing generations of
able and accomplished New Americans to achieve leadership in their
chosen fields. The Program is established in recognition of
the contributions New Americans have made to American life and in
gratitude for the opportunities the United States has afforded the
donors and their family.
A New American is an individual who (1) is a resident alien, i.e.,
holds a Green Card or, (2) has been naturalized as a U.S. citizen,
or (3) is the child of two parents who are both naturalized
citizens.
To be eligible an applicant must not be older than thirty years of
age as of November 1, 2006.
Each year the Fellow receives a maintenance grant of $20,000 (paid
in two installments) and a tuition grant of one-half the tuition
cost of the U.S. graduate program attended by the Fellow (up to a
maximum of $16,000 per academic year).

Warren County Bar Foundation
Scholarship
Scholarships will be awarded in memory of the Honorable John G.
Dier, John and Laura Miller, and John C. Mannix, Esq.
Eligibility is limited to students who reside in Warren County or a

Faith O’Neal Scholarship

John Alexander Memorial Scholarship
Fund
The John Alexander Memorial Scholarship Fund provides scholarships
for Schenectady County residents who are in attendance at any New
York Law School. Applicants must be full-time candidates for a

J.L. Turner Legal Association
Scholarship
The J.L. Turner Legal Association (“JLTLA”), an association
of African-American attorneys in Dallas, Texas, established its
scholarship to provide financial assistance to law students who
have a connection to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and to expose
students to the Dallas-Fort Worth legal community.
To be eligible to receive the scholarship, an applicant must: (1)
be a United States citizen; (2) have a connection to the
Dallas-Fort Worth area; (3) be enrolled at an accredited law
school, and (4) be in good academic standing (proof of academic
standing is required).
