Students applying to and accepting admission to St. John’s
University School of Law agree to comply with the Rules and
Regulations of the University and the School of Law, and to
cooperate with the faculty in maintaining high standards of
conduct. In the application for admission to the Law School, the
applicant certifies that answers to the questions on the
application are complete and accurate; that the applicant
agrees to notify the School of Law Registrar immediately of any
changes in or additions to the information contained in answers to
the questions; and that the applicant understands that any omission
or misstatement might result in dismissal
from the Law School. The applicant is advised in the application
that a copy thereof will be forwarded to the appropriate Committee
on Character and Fitness at the time of application for admission
to the Bar, and that any omission or misstatement
on the application could result in denial of admission to the
Bar.
All students of the University, and Law School students in
particular, are expected to behave and comport themselves in a
manner consistent with the University’s Mission Statement, the
Student Handbooks of the University and Law School, and the highest
standards of professionalism, honesty and integrity. A law
student seeking to enter the legal profession should not engage in
conduct that involves moral turpitude, dishonesty, fraud, deceit or
misrepresentation. A law student should not engage in conduct that
is prejudicial to the administration of the Law School or to the
interest of other students, which includes the ability to study in
a secure and scholarly learning
environment free from harassment and hostility. A law student
should not engage in conduct that adversely reflects upon the
student’s fitness to study the law and ultimately admission to the
practice of law.
Relevant codes and disciplinary procedures are contained in the
Appendices to this Handbook as well as the University Student
Handbook which is available to all law students on the University’s
website. Particular attention should be paid to the
Law School’s “Code of Student Professional Responsibility.”
