Development Update

Because of the generous support from alumni and friends, the School of Law has achieved the following:

  • The percentage of alumni participation in contributions to the Law School has risen to an all-time high of 25%.

  • The School of Law Initiative, chaired by Patricia McLernon Castel ‘74Ed, ‘77L, ‘04HON, successfully concluded with more than $35 million contributed by Law alumni of which nearly $15 million was specifically earmarked for the Law School. 

  • The newly endowed Federal Scholars Program, thanks to the generosity of Patricia ‘74Ed, ‘77L, ‘04HON and Kevin Castel ‘72SVC, ‘75L, ‘04HON, encourages and supports students who intend to serve as Federal judicial clerks upon graduation.

  • Thirty-four (34) endowed scholarships have been funded and are providing financial assistance to needy qualified students.

  • Through the generosity of Paul ‘92 and Marie Kaiser Napoli ‘93, the lecture room in Belson Hall has been renovated and renamed The Paul and Marie Kaiser Napoli Lecture Hall.

  • For the first time in the six year history of the Law Firm Solicition Program, three firms achieved 100% participation from the alumni employed at the firms—Shaub, Ahmuty, Citrin & Spratt (three years in a row), Ahmuty Demers & McManus (twice) and for the first time, Cahill Gordon & Reindel.  Alumni support from the 32 participating firms totaled 36%!

  • The Class Gift Program, initiated five years ago, has achieved an outstanding participation rate of 48% second only to last year’s 58%. Funds from this year’s program will be used to provide new furniture for the Law School Solarium.

  • Funds have been dedicated for the implementation of a Loan Repayment Assistance Program to aid graduates who take public interest employment.

  • Funds have been earmarked for the initiation of a student Pro Bono Program.

  • Four (4) new named professorships have been funded and awarded as follows: Professor Vincent C. Alexander as the Charles M. Sparacio Professor of Law; Professor Lawrence Joseph as the Reverend Joseph T. Tinnelly, C.M. Professor of Law; Professor Rosemary C. Salomone as the Professor Kenneth Wang Professor of Law; and Professor Brian Z. Tamanaha as the Chief Judge Benjamin N. Cardozo Professor of Law.

  • Summer research stipends to support faculty publications work have been increased and additional funds have been made available in support of faculty symposia and special programs.

  • The School of Law continues to rank among the Top 100 Law Schools as reported in U.S. News and World Report.

  • An Alumni E-Digest was inaugurated and distributed monthly to over 7,000 alumni and donors highlighting alumni events, faculty accomplishments and Law School News.
