The Securities Arbitration Clinic addresses the needs of New
York State small investors, who require legal representation, while
simultaneously enhancing the educational experience of St. John’s
law students. In the wake of the stock market decline of
2000-2002, there has been an explosion of small investors
submitting disputes relating to their accounts against their
broker-dealers to arbitration. This substantial increase in
filings has exacerbated the difficulties that small investors have
traditionally experienced in obtaining competent legal
representation. St. John’s law students meet those needs by
providing free legal services to New York State small
investors.
