Second Annual Empire State Legal Writing Conference

St. John's School of Law is pleased to host the Second Annual Empire State Legal Writing Conference on:

Teaching Legal Writing Effectively to Prepare Students for Practice


Featuring over 50 presenters from around the country, the Conference will focus on creative teaching ideas attendees can implement immediately in their own classroom. Various themes will intertwine throughout the day, including:

  • Ethics, professionalism, and plagiarism
  • Reaching today’s millennials
  • Grading efficiently
  • Perspectives from the bench, bar, and clinical programs
  • Experiential techniques
  • Polishing drafts
  • Oral presentations
  • Lessons from international law
  • Current-day email memos

The Conference keynote speaker, Professor Tina Stark, will illuminate key points in teaching transactional drafting. Her afternoon workshop will address “endgame” provisions in contracts.

The pre-conference ALWD Scholars’ Forum is designed to complement the main Conference offerings. During this workshop, up to 16 participants will present their scholarship ideas or works-in-progress for discussion and critique by legal writing scholars.

Fee
There is no fee for attending the main Conference or the pre-conference AWLD Scholars’ Forum.

Registration
To register for the main Conference, please complete and submit the online Conference Registration form by Monday, May 9, 2011. Walk-in registration will be permitted only if seats are available.

To register for the ALWD Scholars’ Forum, please complete and submit the online Forum Registration form by Monday, May 2, 2011. Pre-registration is required and registration is limited to the first 16 registrants. Send your work-in-progress to Robin Boyle at boyler@stjohns.edu.
