Professor Susser is the Director of the Matrimonial and Family Law
Unit at the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), a non-profit
law firm providing free legal services to low income clients
throughout New York City.
Prior to working at NYLAG, Professor Susser was the staff attorney
at Victim Services Westside Legal Project, where she represented
victims of domestic violence in Family Court. From 1990 until 1995,
she was a trial attorney in the Juvenile Rights Division of the
Legal Aid Society, where she represented children in child
protective and delinquency proceedings in Brooklyn.
Professor Susser is a member of the Association of the Bar of the
City of New York and was Secretary of the Domestic Violence Task
Force. She is also an active member of the Lawyer’s Committee
Against Domestic Violence and was the 2006 recipient of the annual
In the Trenches award. In 2009, Professor Susser received the
Kathryn A. McDonald Award for Excellence in Service to the Family
Court. She has published articles in the Fordham Urban Law Journal
and the Lawyer’s Manual on Domestic Violence regarding orders of
protection and custody issues in domestic violence cases. Professor
Susser graduated George Washington University National Law Center
in 1989.
Lisa Rivera, Esq.

Professor Rivera is the Associate Director of the Matrimonial and
Family Law Unit at the New York Legal Assistance Group’s (NYLAG), a
non-profit law firm providing free legal services to low income
clients throughout New York City. She was a supervising attorney
with the Courtroom Advocates Project (CAP) from 2003-2006. Prior to
working at NYLAG, Professor Rivera clerked at the National District
Attorney’s Association, where she worked on trainings on domestic
violence, sexual assault and forensic evidence.
She is a member of the Lawyer’s Committee Against Domestic Violence
and serves on the Family Court/Family Law Committee of the NYC Bar
Association. Professor Rivera graduated George Washington
University Law School in 2002.
