Consumer Day 2008 - Protecting Your Financial Future

Consumer Day 2008
Protecting Your Financial Future
June 7, 2008

St. John’s University School of Law Securities Arbitration Clinic and the New York State Attorney General's Office co-sponsored the second annual Consumer Day program.  The program explored ways investors can protect themselves, by answering some common questions:

  • What rights do investors have and what duties do brokers have?
  • What do those fancy titles mean; does the broker have any special education or experience?
  • What should investors look out for with “free lunch” seminars and variable annuities?
  • What are the common scams?
  • What’s next with the sub-prime mortgage crisis?

The program included guest speakers from the New York State Attorney General’s Office, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, as well as attorneys and professors.

The program was a free all day event and was open to the public.
