About The School of Education

Established in 1908, St. John’s University’s School of Education was the second in New York State to award graduate degrees to teachers.  The School of Education at St. John’s University prepares students for professional teaching and administrative positions at all levels of education bringing the values inherent in social justice, human rights and dignity to your program of study.

When you choose St. John’s, you will acquire first-rate communication skills, extensive professional knowledge, and a deep understanding of the conceptual frameworks of your chosen academic area.  Further, you will learn of the benefits that come with committed services to all people, but particularly those most in need.

U.S. News & World Report ranks the School of Education at St. John’s among the top 10 percent of graduate education schools in the nation.  With four convenient locations (Queens, Staten Island, Oakdale and Manhattan) and the State’s first Online Learning programs in both educational administration and special education as well as innovative career change and alternative certification programs, the school of Education continues to pave the way for well-prepared and compassionate educators.

For these reasons, its alumni enjoy a 93% employment rate.  Degree programs are offered (M.S.Ed), AdvCrt, Ed.D. and Ph.D) in early childhood, childhood, adolescent, special education, literacy, counseling, administration, TESOL, instructional leadership and career change.

St. John’s offers opportunities to nourish your ability to create a productive and effective learning environment; plan and implement instructional activities; monitor and assess student learning; and interact effectively with peers, pupils, parents, indeed the entire community in educational institutions, service organizations, citizens, groups and the media.

Above all, you will learn to teach and lead with a unique compassion for others.

The School’s graduate programs are designed for working adults with classes conveniently scheduled in the evenings and online.
