September 25, 2013
On Saturday, September 28, members of the St. John’s University
community will join together in embracing the University’s
Vincentian mission and heritage at its 12th Annual University
University Service Day is a University-wide celebration
scheduled each year to coincide with the Feast of St. Vincent de
Paul, September 27, and involves the campus community embodying the
University core value of service and its Vincentian mission, while
serving communities locally, nationally and globally.
Approximately 1,500 students, faculty administrators, and staff
from campus locations (Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island, Oakdale,
Paris, Rome and Seville) will join together.
In honor of St. Vincent de Paul and his commitment to the poor
and disadvantaged, service sites will include local school and
community center clean-ups, fundraising and awareness events,
serving the hungry in soup kitchens, visiting residents at nursing
homes and hospitals and providing assistance with many other
important projects. More than 150 teams of volunteers and
participants across all campuses are charged with the same mission
for the day—to go out and ‘Make A Difference’ in the lives of their
neighbors in need.
